Cancellation and refund policy
Compare JR Pass cancellation insurance, 100% and 85% refunds, physical return requirements and name change fees.
Refund eligibility
With cancellation insurance within 0 to 90 days of purchase: 100% of the pass value is refunded, with no transaction fees. Without insurance, or after 90 days: 85% of the pass value is refunded, with transaction fees deducted both ways. Refund requests are available within 12 months of purchase. The €39 protection charge is separate from the pass value.
Important requirements
Passes must be returned physically before cancellation, as required by JR. Contact us before returning your pass. The buyer is responsible for return shipping. Refunds are processed promptly after the returned pass is received and checked.
Non-refundable cases
Lost or damaged passes cannot be refunded. Activated passes cannot be refunded, as strictly forbidden by JR. Shipping fees are not refundable.
Name changes
With insurance, name changes are free. Without insurance, a name change costs €40 per ticket. A new shipping fee applies for all reissued passes, including insured passes.
Transaction fees
Transaction fees vary by payment method. Credit card payments incur higher processing fees. Where applicable, fees from both the original payment and the refund are deducted.
